Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Elixir)

Location: Toronto, Canada — remote

Salary: CAD 140,000–180,000 per year, with potential additional bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems for measurement, attribution, and reporting.
• Develop data pipelines and services that transform raw event streams and metrics into actionable insights.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on an intuitive reporting UI for digital marketing users.
• Own backend components from service architecture through deployment and monitoring.
• Improve code quality, testing, observability, reliability, scalability, and system performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building fault-tolerant, highly concurrent distributed systems at scale.
• Strong backend development skills with Python, Ruby, or similar languages; the team uses Python and Elixir.
• Experience with functional programming principles, web APIs including REST and GraphQL, and gRPC.
• Experience with cloud platforms and distributed technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Kafka, and RabbitMQ.
• Knowledge of OLTP and OLAP systems, schema design, query optimization, CI/CD, automated deployment, technical leadership, and mentoring.
