Sr. Director of Digital Experience Design (Automotive)

Location: Troy, Michigan, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis; visa sponsorship is not available.

Annual base pay range: $222,431–$370,719 USD.

What you will do

• Define and drive the design vision across the website, online marketplace, e-commerce and purchasing flow, mobile app, and in-vehicle digital experiences.
• Translate brand and product strategy into cohesive, human-centered customer experiences and represent design in roadmap, executive, and board-level discussions.
• Lead, coach, hire, and grow a team of UI designers, UX designers, and copywriters, including managers and leads.
• Own and evolve the digital design system, including tokens, reusable components, documentation, governance, and version-controlled design artifacts.
• Establish design workflows, prototyping and handoff standards, and collaboration practices within the agile delivery process.
• Build a UX research practice and partner with Product, Software, Brand, Marketing, and Vehicle Design on requirements, prioritization, testing, and implementation tradeoffs.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in product, UX, or UI design for high-volume consumer or customer experiences, including at least 7 years in people leadership and experience managing managers or leads.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of complex digital products across strategy, research, interaction design, visual design, and delivery.
• Deep experience with atomic design systems, design tokens, components, documentation, governance, Figma, and modern prototyping workflows.
• Experience designing across responsive or adaptive web, native iOS or Android applications, or embedded and in-vehicle interfaces.
• Experience with A/B and multivariate testing, UX research, usability testing, data-informed iteration, and product and engineering collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Product Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice to have

• Growth design and interaction design experience focused on acquisition, conversion, experimentation, and interaction craft.
• Experience leading design for e-commerce or digital marketplaces and scaling a team through a major product launch.
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, MUI, Tailwind, and component-based front-end frameworks.
• Master’s degree in HCI, Interaction Design, or a related field.
