Data Scientist - Defence (AI)

Location: London, Greater London, England, United Kingdom. Some travel to customer and partner locations is expected. The role supports UK and European defence programmes and requires candidates to hold, or be able to obtain and maintain, UK SC / NATO security clearance; eligibility typically requires at least five years of continuous UK residence.

What you will do

• Research, design, implement, and deploy machine learning algorithms, intelligent agents, and optimisation solutions for enterprise applications.
• Help defence customers build applications on the enterprise AI platform.
• Contribute to new platform features and analytics capabilities.
• Analyse model performance across asset fleets, diagnose low risk scores and false positives, and recommend hyperparameter adjustments.
• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, customers, and subject matter experts to validate, interpret, and apply new data elements.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or an equivalent field.
• Applied AI experience covering generative AI, agentic solutions, regression, classification, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning.
• Strong mathematical background in linear algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.
• Experience with scalable machine learning, including MapReduce and streaming.
• Ability to drive projects independently and collaborate effectively in a team.
• Eligibility for UK SC / NATO security clearance, typically requiring five years of continuous UK residence.

Nice to have

• Experience with JavaScript, Python, and R.
• Experience with Java or Scala.
• Portfolio of projects, GitHub repositories, or research papers.
