TL;DR
Principal Mechatronics Engineer (Robotics): Own the mechanical architecture, prototyping, validation, and production release of robotic arms and end effectors for autonomous yard operations with an accent on electromechanical design, manufacturability, and reliability. Focus on designing safety-critical manipulation systems, resolving systemic mechanical risks, and leading FMEA, FEA, supplier development, and cross-functional hardware/software integration.

Location: Based in Denver, Colorado; hybrid and remote candidates may be considered case by case. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Salary: $170,000–$200,000 per year, with equity and relocation assistance.

What you will do

  • Own the mechanical architecture of robotic manipulation systems, including robotic arms, end effectors, actuation, and related hardware.
  • Lead requirements definition, design, analysis, prototyping, validation, production release, and field deployment.
  • Establish engineering standards for CAD, GD&T, tolerance analysis, documentation, DFM, and formal part release.
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, systems, vendors, and contract manufacturers on integrated system performance and scalable production.
  • Lead reliability initiatives including FMEA, FTA, root cause analysis, corrective action, and durability improvements.
  • Mentor mechanical engineers and identify systemic mechanical risks before they reach the field.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience with integrated hardware/software systems in robotics, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, or similar products.
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • End-to-end mechanical system architecture experience covering requirements, design, analysis, and validation.
  • Expertise in machined parts, weldments, sheet metal, molded or cast components, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFM.
  • Experience with FEA, PDM systems, formal part release processes, sensor integration, and reliability programs for fielded hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and improving team technical quality.

Nice to have

  • Robotic manipulator design experience, including joint design, linkage synthesis, and actuation selection.
  • Experience designing hardware for hardened outdoor environments involving ingress protection, thermal cycling, vibration, and shock.
  • Familiarity with cable harnesses, sensor wiring, Python or C++ for test automation, and hardware-in-the-loop validation.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or similar functional safety standards.
