TL;DR
Equipment Maintenance Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical): Maintaining and optimising wafer fabrication and epitaxy equipment in a high-precision semiconductor manufacturing facility with an accent on electrical, mechanical, vacuum, pneumatic, and RF systems. Focus on rapid fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance, hazardous gas and chemical systems, and minimising equipment downtime across a continental shift pattern.

Location: Caswell, Towcester, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom; onsite work at the fabrication facility. Continental shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off, with 12-hour shifts including weekends and bank holidays. Must be eligible to work in the UK. A full UK driving licence and access to personal transport are essential.

What you will do

  • Provide first-line engineering response to minimise equipment downtime and production impact.
  • Repair, diagnose faults, and perform preventative maintenance on lithography, etch, PVD, PECVD, and MOVPE reactor systems.
  • Maintain gas delivery, exhaust, abatement, chemical, and specialty gas supply systems in line with safety and environmental standards.
  • Manage critical spare parts inventory and support strategies to improve OEE and equipment uptime.
  • Contribute to Kaizen, 6S, and 8D continuous improvement activities while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Participate in production planning meetings, emergency response activities, and Site Emergency Response Team duties.

Requirements

  • Apprenticeship, HNC, HND, or degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or at least five years of directly relevant complex electro-mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Experience in a high-tech, precision-engineering environment with strong electrical, electronic, and mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous gases and chemicals and follow detailed procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Competence in documenting procedures, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Ability to meet medical and respiratory protective equipment face-fit requirements for SCBA use.
  • Strong organisation, communication, technical documentation, and Microsoft Office skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in semiconductor or cleanroom manufacturing.
  • Background in aerospace, defence, automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, power generation, or UK Armed Forces technical trades.
