Lead Software Engineer (Crypto)

Location: New York, United States

Salary: $235,000–$275,000 annual base salary, plus discretionary annual target bonus, performance incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance risk systems for clearing operations.
• Architect scalable infrastructure for ingesting and transforming market data feeds.
• Develop systems supporting risk management, regulatory reporting, and clearing workflows.
• Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, data freshness, resilience, and throughput.
• Enforce engineering standards for code quality, automated testing, SDLC practices, and performance profiling.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Quants, Risk Managers, and engineering teams in Hong Kong and New York to define technical specifications and evolve the target-state architecture.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience supporting front-office trading systems at a regulated financial institution.
• Deep knowledge of risk management frameworks, margining methodologies, default waterfalls, real-time mark-to-market valuation, stress testing, and backtesting engines.
• Strong understanding of derivatives, including options, futures, and Greeks such as Delta and Gamma.
• Expert-level Java experience building fault-tolerant, high-throughput systems, including performance tuning, garbage collection optimization, concurrency, and memory management.
• Experience with Aeron, Kafka, SQL and NoSQL data stores such as Postgres, Redis, and MongoDB, plus data structures, event schemas, and database models.
• Knowledge of testing methodologies, Twelve-Factor App principles, distributed HA/DR strategies, hexagonal architecture, and using large language models to accelerate development while maintaining engineering standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Airflow, or DBT.
• Knowledge of FIX and FIXML protocols.
• Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Tableau, or Superset.
