Staff Firmware Embedded Engineer (C/C++)

Salary: $180,000–$210,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Define and implement firmware features for hirify.global hardware products at the microcontroller level.
• Develop bootloaders and C/C++ applications running in an RTOS.
• Design a secure, highly reliable OTA update system across communication interfaces, processor types, and products.
• Work with system architects to create data-streaming architecture that supports high-rate, high-quality data and safety guarantees for consistency and accuracy.
• Own large user-facing features from conception through implementation on future hardware products.
• Represent Device Software in cross-functional groups, participate in code and design reviews, document engineering practices, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience developing software for hardware devices using C or C++.
• Strong modern software design fundamentals, including object-oriented design and manual memory management.
• Experience with electrical communication interfaces such as UART, I2C, and USB.
• Ability to work on-site in San Francisco.
• Exceptional interpersonal communication, collaboration, ownership, and decision-making skills.
• Experience supporting projects through design review, code review, and mentoring.

Nice to have

• Experience with STM32 microcontrollers.
• Experience with functional safety standards such as UL 60730, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or UL 1998.
• Experience developing system or application software, including diagnostic command-line tools or communication-interface applications.
• Experience with WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, electronics lab equipment, or clean-energy hardware.
