Software Engineer (Java/AWS)

Location: Must be based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not available.

Salary: $97,530–$158,480 per year

What you will do

• Develop, test, and maintain backend RESTful APIs and microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS.
• Define API contracts, payload schemas, and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
• Implement integrations using OAuth 2.0 and other authentication and authorization standards.
• Build automated unit and integration tests and participate in performance, load, and quality testing.
• Contribute to CI/CD automation, deployments, operational support, and production issue resolution.
• Participate in code reviews, technical documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Knowledge of software development, product design, architecture, critical thinking, and effective communication.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and microservices using Java 21+ and Spring Boot.
• Understanding of API security, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and service-to-service communication.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, AWS Kinesis, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases and automated testing.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and Agile/Scrum collaboration across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
