Senior AI Applied Engineer

Location: New York, NY, United States. Hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office and the remaining days remotely. Qualified candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a commutable distance from one of the talent markets.

Salary: $141,100–$194,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and operate full-stack AI applications with frontend experiences, APIs, backend services, and data pipelines.
• Build LLM workflows for information extraction, classification, retrieval, summarization, agentic processes, structured outputs, tool calling, and fallback handling.
• Implement RAG systems using embeddings, vector databases, and semantic search.
• Develop evaluation frameworks with benchmark datasets, regression testing, quality metrics, and human review workflows.
• Build document-processing pipelines covering OCR, ingestion, metadata extraction, indexing, and search.
• Operate production systems with observability, monitoring, incident response, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and infrastructure tooling while meeting privacy, security, compliance, and auditability requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience building and operating production software systems.
• Experience with backend services, APIs, distributed systems, or data-intensive applications.
• Production experience integrating LLMs through structured outputs, tool calling, RAG, agents, or multi-step workflows, using a major AI platform or model provider.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript, plus experience debugging, monitoring, and supporting production applications.
• Must work a hybrid schedule with three office days per week and reside within or be willing to relocate to a commutable distance from a talent market.

Nice to have

• Experience with evaluation frameworks, prompt versioning, tracing, model monitoring, agentic architecture, MCP, or tool orchestration.
• Experience with React, Next.js, full-stack architecture, Kubernetes, Docker, cloud environments, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, or government.
• Familiarity with privacy, compliance, governance, data protection, and AI-assisted development tools.
