CAE Analysis Engineer (Engine Performance & Calibration)

Location: Hybrid in Pontiac or Warren, Michigan; on-site attendance at least 3 times per week is required. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Develop GT-POWER and GT-SUITE 1D engine simulation models for gasoline and diesel architectures, including complete intake and exhaust systems.
• Simulate full-load, part-load, and transient engine operation to assess torque, power, fuel consumption, vehicle performance, and control algorithms.
• Create medium- and fast-running models, process fuel-mapping data, and generate virtual data or calibrations for embedded engine controllers.
• Develop analytical techniques for boost devices, exhaust gas recirculation, variable valve lift, emissions control, and aftertreatment systems.
• Optimize valve lift profiles, interpret component- and system-level results, and provide design recommendations to engineering teams.
• Validate models with test engineers and contribute to MATLAB- and Python-based post-processing and automation tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or physics.
• At least 3 years of propulsion simulation or virtual engineering experience and 5 years of engineering experience.
• Fundamental understanding of combustion engines and 1D CFD modeling with GT-SUITE.
• Experience with engine dynamometer testing and data analysis.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with ambiguity, develop new capabilities, and establish standard work.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or physics.
• 5+ years of experience with GT-POWER, WAVE, or similar software.
• Experience with engine calibration, controls, and model-based calibration techniques.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or AVL software, plus programming experience or willingness to learn.
• Broad experience across vehicle development processes and the ability to solve unusual, complex analytical problems.
