Engineer - Powertrain - R&D (Automotive)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. Hybrid schedule with onsite presence Monday–Thursday and remote work optionally available on Friday. Domestic and international travel of up to 25% may be required.

What you will do

• Design and support driveline components for conventional, hybrid, and electrified powertrains.
• Create validated 3D models, 2D drawings, and supplier specification sheets using hirify.global’s standard design process.
• Lead design reviews and demonstrate that responsible parts meet functional and performance targets.
• Develop counter-measures addressing cost, mass, durability, strength, warranty, and customer-quality issues.
• Collaborate with vehicle design, hirify.global Japan, suppliers, purchasing, supplier development teams, and assembly plants.
• Manage supplier quality and delivery milestones while improving design-process capability and product launch performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical Engineering or another technical discipline.
• Experience with CAD tools, GD&T, product design, and manufacturability.
• Experience designing and releasing prototype and production component drawings and supplier specification sheets.
• Knowledge of automotive manufacturing methods, including castings, forgings, machining, thermoplastics, and rubber molding.
• Strong knowledge of conventional, hybrid, and electrified drivelines, with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
• Must have the right to work in the United States and must not require current or future visa or work-authorization sponsorship.

Nice to have

• At least 2 years of automotive design or development experience.
• Hands-on experience with driveline or powertrain assemblies and detailed knowledge of propeller shafts, transfer cases, driveshafts, and differentials.
• Experience with CATIA, FEA, vehicle NVH, vehicle simulations, or Design Review Based on Failure Mode.
• Knowledge of quality management and supply chain management principles.
