Staff Engineer (Ruby/Rust)

Location: United States — remote; strong preference for U.S.-based candidates.

What you will do

• Own significant projects from technical design through implementation and rollout.
• Set technical direction across the healthcare data platform and member management solution.
• Develop and evolve Ruby on Rails APIs, Axum-based services, and Rust data-processing pipelines.
• Influence the culture and technical direction of the engineering organization.
• Raise engineering standards, development processes, and code quality across the team.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of substantial projects from design through delivery.
• Proficiency in both Ruby and Rust.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining production APIs.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data pipelines.
• Strong technical judgment and a high standard for software quality, including effective use of AI-assisted development tools.
• Collaborative communication skills and an interest in transparent, positive engineering teams.
