Lead Data Engineer (AI)

Location: US - Remote Eligible. Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Salary: $204,000 — $255,000 USD

What you will do

• Lead the design and construction of large-scale, distributed batch and real-time data systems.
• Architect and optimize ML infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Implement robust offline and online feature building processes to accelerate ML product development.
• Collaborate with backend, client, data science, and analytics teams to drive impactful product outcomes.
• Mentor and develop engineers while influencing the broader data engineering community.
• Shape the long-term vision and roadmap for data systems within the Communication and Connectivity organization.

Requirements

• 9+ years of industry experience with a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree, or 6+ years with a PhD.
• Must reside in a US state where Airbnb has a registered entity.
• Strong CS fundamentals and experience with common design patterns.
• Proven experience running production data pipelines using distributed frameworks like Apache Spark or Flink.
• Experience working on end-to-end Machine Learning products.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
