Principal Platform Engineer

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; hybrid with at least 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $170,000–$200,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain classical compute infrastructure supporting quantum control systems.
• Collaborate with software engineers, control systems engineers, and physicists to translate workload requirements into infrastructure solutions.
• Own infrastructure as code, deployment automation, and observability across on-premises laboratory environments and cloud platforms.
• Establish and enforce security, access control, and compliance standards, including NIST 800-53 and SOC 2.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
• Evaluate infrastructure tools and make build-versus-buy decisions based on velocity and operational overhead.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science.
• 7+ years of post-degree experience as an infrastructure, platform, or systems engineer.
• Experience completing an infrastructure build-out or major platform migration.
• Current experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.
• Experience managing hybrid environments with on-premises hardware and AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus knowledge of Linux, networking, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and observability.
