Senior Commercial Lawyer (Public Sector)

Location: Belfast, Bristol, or London, United Kingdom. Hybrid working: 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. UK citizenship and 10+ years of continuous UK residence are required to be eligible for DV clearance before starting.

What you will do

• Lead legal support for high-value, complex UK public-sector and commercial transactions across defence, government, local council, and health sectors.
• Shape bid strategy and contractual approaches with bid, technical, procurement, customer, subcontractor, and legal stakeholders.
• Draft, negotiate, and conclude customer, supplier, partnership, prime, and subcontract agreements.
• Manage in-life contractual issues, disputes, change controls, regulatory developments, and complex multi-subcontractor supply chains.
• Advise on regulatory, governance, compliance, competition, advertising, financial services, and data protection matters.
• Provide legal briefings, escalate risks, influence senior stakeholders, and contribute to legal delivery and team capability development.

Requirements

• Eligibility for DV security clearance, including UK citizenship and 10+ years of continuous UK residence.
• Qualified lawyer or equivalent legal professional with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Single Source Contract Regulation, Qualifying Defence Contracts, and related subcontracts.
• Strong commercial contract experience, particularly in the telecommunications and technology sectors.
• Proven public-sector contracting and public procurement experience, including prime agreements and related subcontracts.
• Expertise in contractual risk management, stakeholder influence, and relevant regulatory and data protection legislation.

• Pragmatic, solutions-driven approach and experience taking on additional project responsibilities with limited supervision.
