Controller - Real Estate

Salary: $140,000–$175,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage the full cycle of accounting operations for more than 20 legal entities, including month-end close, financial statements, accounts payable and receivable, job costing, cash management, and internal controls.
• Lead the annual year-end close process and ensure timely and accurate tax return filings.
• Lead and mentor the accounting team, including a Senior Accountant, Senior Staff Accountant, and Project Accountant/Contract Administrator.
• Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, consolidation, and job-cost systems.
• Analyze monthly pro forma results by project, coordinate financial reviews with the development team, and recommend actions to improve project performance.
• Support long-range planning, investor communications, equity and debt project transactions, insurance, and bonding requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or real estate.
• Five to ten years of experience analyzing residential and commercial real estate markets.
• Five to ten years of experience in residential and commercial development, from acquisition and entitlements through build-out.
• Strong knowledge of project-based accounting for real estate land development and vertical development projects.
• Experience with multiple-entity environments, equity investment accounting, and intercompany accounting is preferred.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, written, and oral communication skills; a valid driver’s license may be required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree, CPA, or CFA.
• Prior homebuilding experience.
