Assistant Controller (Electric Vehicle Retail)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)

Salary: $165,000–$200,000 annually, depending on experience

What you will do

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, general ledger integrity, and variance resolution.
• Research and apply U.S. GAAP to complex transactions, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, and inventory valuation.
• Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, analyses, and variance explanations for leadership.
• Coordinate external audits, maintain accounting documentation, and strengthen internal controls and audit readiness.
• Automate accounting workflows, improve finance systems and reporting, and support integrations with operational platforms.
• Partner with Finance, Operations, Sales, technology teams, and executive leadership while mentoring accounting team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong month-end close ownership.
• Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and external audits.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Nice to have

• CPA certification or active CPA candidacy.
• Experience in high-growth startups, technology companies, automotive, dealership, retail, or inventory accounting.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar ERP and accounting systems.
• Experience with SQL, Python, data automation, reporting tools, Git, APIs, or AI-assisted workflow tools.
• Experience building scalable accounting processes and internal controls.
