Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: 100% remote; work anywhere, including while being a nomad in another country. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, and the client is based in Los Angeles.

What you will do

• Own backend and frontend systems end to end, remaining accountable for their production behavior and long-term evolution.
• Design scalable distributed systems, microservice architectures, REST APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
• Monitor, debug, troubleshoot, support, and continuously improve production software.
• Use AI agents throughout design, planning, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and operational analysis.
• Design, build, and integrate AI agents and agentic workflows for engineering automation and product capabilities.
• Make technical decisions, balance speed, quality, scalability, and maintainability, and mentor peers through technical leadership and code reviews.

Requirements

• Upper-intermediate to fluent spoken and written English.
• 5+ years of experience building backend applications with Python and FastAPI or a similar framework.
• Expertise in REST API design and implementation.
• 3+ years of experience developing and deploying applications with AWS serverless technologies and related cloud infrastructure.
• Experience validating and taking ownership of AI-generated designs, code, tests, and documentation, plus working in an AI-first engineering environment.
• Experience with AI agents or agentic workflows, frontend development using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or comparable technologies, production ownership, cloud, and DevOps.

Nice to have

• Understanding of prompt engineering, tool orchestration, context management, and evaluation techniques for AI-powered systems.
• Experience mentoring peers through technical leadership and code reviews.
• Ability to work independently with ambiguity and enthusiasm for new tools and engineering practices.
