Senior Backend Engineer (Safety)

Location: Remote within the United States; office access is available in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago.

Salary: $190,800–$267,100 USD per year, plus potential equity and commission depending on the position offered.

What you will do

• Build high-impact safety and moderation products and features for Reddit communities.
• Collaborate with product, design, frontend, mobile, and engineering partners on product and business strategy.
• Contribute to the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
• Review code, design documents, product specifications, and user-interface mocks.
• Lead and mentor engineers while improving engineering standards, workflows, and development practices.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby.
• Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, Thrift, or gRPC, including designing and implementing maintainable APIs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work and keep projects on schedule.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fully remote environment and communicating complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-directed, innovative, action-oriented approach in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
