Billing Specialist (Medical Billing)

Location: Houston, Texas; hybrid workplace with a minimum of 3 days per week onsite. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Salary: $44,800–$61,600 annually.

What you will do

• Review patient documentation, posted charges, and insurance accounts for completeness, accuracy, and proper ICD-10 diagnosis documentation.
• Generate, submit, and resubmit commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid claims for cardiology devices.
• Process EDI submissions through clearinghouses, printed claims, attachments, and mailing activities when required.
• Manage rejected and unbillable claims, follow up on unbilled claims and payment discrepancies, and resolve denials.
• Conduct regular audits and provide updates on billing reports and operational issues to management.
• Identify opportunities to improve documentation and billing efficiency while maintaining current knowledge of payer and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or higher is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in a medical-related business environment.
• Experience with billing database software, proven data-entry skills, and proficiency in Excel.
• Knowledge of insurance industry processes, third-party payers, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
• Strong organization, prioritization, attention to detail, accuracy, and independent work skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with clearinghouses and payer portals.
• Associate degree or higher.
