Billing Coordinator (Healthcare Billing)

Location: Remote, US; fully virtual work with periodic in-person retreats.

Salary: $50,000–$58,000 annually

What you will do

• Review clinical documentation and enter charges accurately and on time according to payor requirements.
• Submit insurance claims, monitor claim status, and follow payor-specific filing and billing guidelines.
• Investigate, correct, resubmit, and follow up on claim errors, rejections, and denials.
• Support patient billing, self-pay statements, payment plans, and family questions about copays, deductibles, and balances.
• Monitor accounts receivable through reporting, reconciliation, and audit-related activities.
• Partner with Patient Experience, Authorization & Eligibility, and clinical teams on coverage questions, billing education, compliance, and process improvement.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of healthcare billing experience; behavioral health or telehealth experience is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of insurance payor policies, billing guidelines, and claims submission requirements.
• Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes and their impact on billing and reimbursement.
• Experience with billing platforms and proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, especially spreadsheets.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, prioritization, written and verbal communication, and ability to work independently.
• Ability to maintain accurate patient accounting records in accordance with HIPAA, privacy, and confidentiality policies.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field.
• Experience with Mahler, Apero, or similar revenue cycle management software.
• Medical billing or coding experience and a behavioral health billing background.
• Experience in a startup or entrepreneurial environment.
• Experience using billing and claims reports to manage workflows.
