Payroll Specialist (Portugal)

Location: Must be based in Portugal with the right to work in this location.

What you will do

• Own the full end-to-end native Portuguese payroll cycle in-house.
• Process and validate payroll master data, including new hires, terminations, and variable pay.
• Handle all statutory filings including IRS withholding, Segurança Social declarations, and annual Modelo 10.
• Perform pre- and post-payroll validations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Support the maintenance of payroll system procedures and test legislative updates.
• Prepare statutory and ad-hoc reports, including EU Pay Transparency and GDPR-related documentation.

Requirements

• Must be based in Portugal with the right to work in this location.
• 1–3 years of hands-on experience running native in-house payroll for Portugal.
• Proficiency with Portuguese payroll software: Cegid (Primavera or PHC) and/or Sendys is essential.
• Portuguese language proficiency at C1/C2 level for interaction with local authorities.
• Fluent English for collaborating with a global team.
• Completed recognized accounting or payroll certification (e.g., Contabilista Certificado).
• Working knowledge of Portuguese wage tax, social insurance, and labor law.

Nice to have

• Broader accounting background or qualification (e.g., Revisor Oficial de Contas).
• Experience delivering cross-functional HR/Payroll projects.
• Practical experience with AI tools for payroll optimization.
• Strong data transformation and analytics skills.
