Agentic Software Test Engineer (AI)

Location: La Crosse, Wisconsin, United States; onsite Monday through Thursday, with a flexible work location on Fridays

What you will do

• Direct the agentic testing organization for TRACE, a building energy simulation platform for HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, and ASHRAE-compliant reporting.
• Define agent personas, orchestration patterns, context contracts, knowledge bases, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
• Build evaluation harnesses for agent output quality, regression coverage drift, flaky-test detection, and production divergence.
• Curate and verify agent-generated test plans, automated scripts, exploratory findings, regression results, and defect reports.
• Run manual, automated, functional, regression, data, and accessibility testing across the .NET backend, Blazor frontend, PostgreSQL schema, and EnergyPlus engine.
• Partner with developers and Product Owners on test coverage, release readiness, quality strategy, and customer-impact scenarios.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software quality assurance experience with a record of shipping tested software.
• 1+ year of hands-on experience with LLM-based agents, AI coding assistants, or multi-agent systems in production or near-production workflows.
• Strong knowledge of unit, integration, system, functional, exploratory, regression, defect-lifecycle, and release-gating practices.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents and the Anthropic or OpenAI APIs, including prompt engineering, JSON Schema structured outputs, tool use, and multi-agent orchestration.
• Ability to read and modify production code in C#, Python, or JavaScript; experience with GitHub Actions, Jira, Playwright, BUnit, and xUnit or NUnit.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain agent behavior, evaluation results, and quality posture in plain language.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with C#, .NET, Blazor, ASP.NET Core, Razor, TypeScript, CSS, and HTML.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and EF Core, including database-aware test design and schema migration testing.
• Experience with building energy simulation, EnergyPlus, ASHRAE standards, HVAC equipment sizing, or compliance reporting.
• Agile or Scrum experience.
