Test Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Onsite in Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA; hands-on work in an engineering lab or warehouse environment. Up to 10% travel to suppliers, customer sites, or other company locations may be required.

Salary: $82,000–$113,300 base pay per year, plus benefits.

What you will do

• Write and execute component-level through full system-level test plans.
• Design test methods for production teams and external suppliers.
• Perform functional, regression, reliability, and recovery testing for automation systems.
• Verify PLC software releases and test controls updates and bug fixes.
• Develop and commission manual and automated fixtures, including electrical panels, controls hardware, and data acquisition systems.
• Produce schematics, panel layouts, PLC fixture code, and mechanical fixture designs, while leading root cause analysis of complex system issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience with industrial motion control, automation systems, or complex electromechanical equipment.
• Strong experience with Rockwell Automation controls platforms, PLC systems, and industrial hardware integration.
• Experience with industrial networking and distributed controls systems, including Ethernet/IP architectures.
• Ability to analyze, organize, and clearly present technical data and diagnose multidisciplinary system issues.
• Ability to work onsite in Wilmington and travel by car or air as needed; a valid driver’s license is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with industrial robotics and machine vision systems.
• Familiarity with Raspberry Pi or Arduino for prototyping or controls applications.
• Experience with Jira or similar issue-tracking tools.
