Mechanical Engineer (Thermal Systems)

Location: San Jose, California, USA; onsite

Annual base salary: USD 121,900–195,000, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity awards.

What you will do

• Lead thermo-mechanical lab operations, including liquid cooling infrastructure, BGA socket thermal validation, and system-level testing.
• Own component validation and troubleshooting from concept through production.
• Develop and qualify heatsinks, vapor chambers, liquid cooling systems, manifolds, fans, and related hardware with vendors.
• Design rack-mount enclosures and system components for production requirements in collaboration with electrical engineering, thermal, compliance, and manufacturing teams.
• Define thermal test plans, perform measurements, correlate results with simulations, and document findings.
• Resolve system-level thermal issues in high-power prototypes and support the transition from prototype to volume production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 8+ years of enclosure design and thermal test validation experience.
• Proficiency in PTC Creo and Windchill PLM.
• Strong knowledge of heatsinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers, liquid cooling systems, thermal sensors, and laboratory instrumentation.
• Knowledge of datacenter rack standards including EIA-310 and OCP.
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC shielding, compliance and reliability testing, including NEBS, shock/vibration, and thermal cycling.
• Experience with global contract manufacturers and suppliers, plus high-speed cabling design and routing in dense rack enclosures.
