Automotive Systems Engineer – Controls

Location: Hybrid in Dearborn, Michigan, with four days per week in the office from Monday through Thursday

What you will do

• Define system architectures and vehicle feature behavior from concept through production launch.
• Translate customer and business needs into engineering requirements, functional specifications, and software implementation specifications.
• Create System Boundary Diagrams, DFMEAs, verification plans, and other engineering quality documentation.
• Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering methods to feature development.
• Support functional safety and cybersecurity assessments.
• Collaborate with software, electrical, mechanical, and vehicle integration teams to resolve complex technical issues and lead engineering trade-off discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of Automotive Systems Engineering experience and 3 years of Software Engineering experience supporting complex embedded systems.
• Experience writing engineering requirements, functional specifications, and implementation specifications.
• Experience creating DFMEAs, System Boundary Diagrams, and engineering quality documentation.
• Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering V-Model.
• Experience developing vehicle features and working with vehicle electrical systems, networking, wiring, power distribution, body systems, chassis systems, and CAN communication.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Five or more years of Automotive Systems Engineering experience.
• Experience leading complete feature development throughout the product lifecycle.
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools, Electrical D&R, and functional safety or cybersecurity assessments.
• Experience leading multifunctional engineering teams and technical trade-off discussions.
