Mechanical Engineer (New Grad Summer 2027)

Location: On-site in Los Angeles, California; based in Hawthorne

Salary: $95,000–$110,000 per year, dependent on academic level and demonstrated experience outside the classroom.

What you will do

• Own hardware projects from concept through production as the responsible engineer.
• Research, design, fabricate, integrate, and test mechanical components, subassemblies, equipment, and systems.
• Design complex mechanical assemblies, precision motion systems, and thermal and fluid subsystems.
• Perform system- and subsystem-level tolerance analysis and plan tests for feasibility, operation, and performance.
• Work cross-functionally with electrical and software engineers to integrate production-ready systems.
• Develop continuous improvement plans focused on performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an ABET-accredited university or college.
• Hands-on design and build experience through internships, engineering clubs, or similar projects.
• Full lifecycle hardware design experience spanning hand calculations, CAD, fabrication, and testing.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals and a first-principles approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to work on-site at the Hawthorne facility in the Los Angeles area.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Knowledge of motion control, kinematics, fluid systems, thermal systems, or electromechanical systems.
• Interest in advancing metal 3D printing and additive manufacturing.
• Experience working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and iterating quickly.
• Evidence of academic excellence, engineering leadership, resilience, or achievement against adversity.
