Additive Engineer (New Grad Summer 2027) (Metal 3D Printing): Advancing metal 3D printing systems and producing industrial-scale parts from customer designs with an accent on print production, part quality analysis, and design for additive manufacturing. Focus on analyzing in situ and post-print data, developing test methods, generating print files, and improving automated high-volume manufacturing capabilities.

Location: Los Angeles, CA / Hawthorne, CA; full-time onsite presence five days a week

Salary: $95,000–$110,000 per year, plus significant stock option packages

What you will do

  • Understand printing system capabilities and roadmap, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to automate high-volume production.
  • Drive print production from design for additive manufacturing feedback and file preparation through printing, post-processing, and quality control.
  • Analyze in situ data and post-print part quality to support continuous improvement.
  • Define test methods, evaluate solutions, iterate using first-principles thinking, and provide technical recommendations.
  • Document application requirements, statements of work, standard operating procedures, action items, and next steps.
  • Communicate technical capabilities to customers and contribute feedback to internal technology and systems development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an ABET-accredited university or college.
  • Hands-on design experience from internships, engineering clubs, or similar projects.
  • Full life-cycle hardware design experience, from hand calculations and CAD through fabrication and testing.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and a first-principles approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work onsite five days per week in Hawthorne, California, with very limited exceptions.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience with metal 3D printing, especially laser powder bed fusion, or metal additive manufacturing process development.
  • Matlab or similar scripting experience for toolpath generation.
  • Mechanical systems design experience and experience working with internal or external customers.
  • Strong cross-disciplinary communication, ownership, resilience, and ability to iterate in fast-paced environments.
