Senior Edge Platform Engineer (IoT)

What you will do

• Harden, secure, and expand the production edge platform running on kiosk devices in the field.
• Develop and review Python services on Ubuntu, packaged as snaps and communicating with AWS IoT Core over MQTT.
• Maintain Wayland-based kiosk display sessions on physical hardware.
• Lead fleet operations, including configuration management rollouts, OpenTelemetry instrumentation, and observability improvements.
• Work with AWS IoT devices, shadows, jobs, message routing, authentication, and serverless triggers.
• Manage one engineer through regular 1:1s, feedback, goal setting, and career development.

Requirements

• Recent systems-level Python experience with async programming, systemd, MQTT, and event loops.
• Experience with snap packaging and modern Ubuntu LTS.
• Production experience with AWS IoT Core.
• Experience with Wayland-based kiosk display stacks and Linux edge/device fundamentals.
• Experience with modern configuration management tools and OpenTelemetry instrumentation.
• Senior-level ability to review edge platform code and lead engineering standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with cellular edge routers and their SDKs.
• IP camera or NVR integration using RTSP or ONVIF.
• Prometheus-family observability tooling.
• Exposure to Rails, Electron, serverless functions, or internal package distribution.
