Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work with 2–3 days per week in the office

Salary: CAD 100,000–143,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead sprint execution, delivery commitments, release coordination, and day-to-day squad operations.
• Translate product requirements into clear, executable engineering work and manage dependencies across squads, enterprise teams, and vendors.
• Directly manage developers, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, engagement, and career development.
• Maintain engineering standards, code quality, architecture discussions, and technical design reviews.
• Contribute hands-on when needed while balancing technical debt, feature delivery, and business outcomes.
• Partner with Product and Design to deliver AI-enabled, omnichannel insurance and wealth experiences.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years as an Engineering Manager or equivalent team leader.
• End-to-end experience leading a single squad across delivery, quality, reliability, and team health.
• Hands-on expertise with Java, React or another modern JavaScript framework, and enterprise integrations.
• Strong experience with Agile planning, estimation, sprint or flow management, dependency coordination, and release execution.
• Experience hiring, onboarding, coaching, and developing engineers, including handling performance and accountability discussions.
• Ability to guide architecture and implementation while communicating scope, trade-offs, progress, and risks with Product and Design.
