Controls System Engineer (Automotive Controls): Supporting automation and controls systems at an automotive assembly plant with an accent on production uptime, equipment safety, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Location: Onsite in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada; full-time presence at the Oshawa Assembly plant required.
Salary: CAD 81,300–1,220,000 per year.

What you will do
- Support daily production operations with a focus on personnel and equipment safety, process quality, uptime, automation, and controls.
- Troubleshoot robotics, controls systems, equipment, and process failures, and develop corrective countermeasures.
- Identify and execute projects involving safety, quality, cost, reliability, process improvements, equipment refurbishment, line-rate increases, and future programs.
- Ensure new and existing equipment meets operational requirements, standards, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain equipment documentation, drawings, manuals, preventive-maintenance schedules, spare-parts availability, and maintenance SOPs.
- Design system interfaces and tests, support root-cause analysis, identify system vulnerabilities, and track mitigation actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or a college diploma or equivalent technical qualification.
- Preferably at least three years of experience in automation controls.
- Experience troubleshooting robotics and controls systems, including Fanuc robotics, paint, welding, and material-handling robots, ControlLogix PLCs, and plant automation controls.
- Intermediate or advanced ControlLogix PLC programming skills, familiarity with variable frequency drives and HMIs, and knowledge of industrial electrical regulations.
- Knowledge of automotive assembly applications and operations, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Maximo, Rockwell, and other technical software; ability to work rotational shifts, including midnight shifts.

- GWSS safety training and Global Manufacturing System training.
- Experience in a unionized manufacturing operation.
- Knowledge of GM Global Controls Standards, including GCCH-1, GCCS-2, and GRS certification.
- A3 Vision Certified Professional qualification.
