TL;DR
Sr Controls & Automation Engineer (Robotics): Designing, integrating, and evaluating advanced robotics and controls systems in a live micro-fulfillment environment with an accent on PLC, HMI, industrial networking, and warehouse automation. Focus on orchestrating PLC, WCS, and WMS layers, validating emerging automation technologies, and scaling successful prototypes into high-throughput distribution facilities.

Location: HQ - Atlanta, Georgia, United States; domestic travel required up to 25% annually.

What you will do

  • Act as the lead technical authority for hirify.global Labs, a micro-fulfillment environment focused on logistics automation.
  • Define control-system architecture and integration roadmaps connecting robotics with hirify.global's internal software ecosystem.
  • Evaluate, install, prototype, and validate AMRs, robotic picking systems, goods-to-person solutions, and sortation automation.
  • Lead integration across PLC, WCS, and WMS layers, including data and control-flow orchestration.
  • Develop deployment frameworks, technical standards, code libraries, electrical schematics, troubleshooting guides, and as-built documentation.
  • Run experiments, simulations, performance validation, and root cause analysis to determine reliability, operational impact, scalability, and ROI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial automation, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in high-volume manufacturing or warehouse automation environments.
  • Expert-level PLC programming with Allen-Bradley and Siemens, HMI development, and industrial networking using EtherNet/IP and Profinet.
  • Experience owning multi-million-dollar automation projects from architecture through commissioning.
  • Ability to document technical findings, experiments, and system learnings clearly.
  • Ability to travel domestically 25% annually.

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-density warehouse automation and robotics platforms, including AMRs, robotic picking, and goods-to-person systems.
  • Experience in R&D or innovation lab environments running automation experiments.
  • Familiarity with WMS, WES, and WCS architectures and their interaction with automation systems.
  • Experience partnering with robotics OEMs or automation vendors in live pilot or production environments.
