Staff Software Engineer (AI, Business Insurance)

Location: New York, New York, United States; remote work is available from approved U.S. locations. Employees based in Denver, San Francisco, New York City, and other designated offices are expected to work onsite approximately 2–3 days per week. A two-day trip to a hirify.global office is required for onboarding.

Salary: $163,000–$204,000 in Denver and most remote locations; $197,000–$247,000 in San Francisco and New York. Stock equity is additional.

What you will do

• Design, build, and test reliable, scalable Business Insurance products.
• Design and implement AI-powered experiences for discovering, evaluating, purchasing, and servicing insurance.
• Take projects from initial design through implementation, launch, and post-launch iteration.
• Use customer feedback and product metrics to improve live features.
• Partner with product, design, and cross-functional teams to shape scope and end-to-end experiences.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years building customer-facing products at scale.
• Experience delivering complex, multi-quarter projects from planning and stakeholder management through successful launch.
• Strong platform and application engineering experience with services, APIs, data flows, and observability.
• AI-native mindset and regular use of AI tools in the development workflow.
• Strong documentation, communication, and technical trade-off skills.
• Ability to meet the required U.S. work arrangement and onboarding travel expectations.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and evaluating AI solutions in production.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and Python.
