Software Engineer, Backend (Python)

Location: Primarily onsite in San Francisco or New York City; remote work is listed, but hiring is limited to residents of California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or Washington.

Salary: $160,000–$240,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and deliver backend software for the private markets investment platform.
• Own projects across specification, implementation, code review, QA testing, deployment, and operations.
• Design and improve REST services, data models, and distributed systems for scalability and performance.
• Collaborate with product partners, teammates, and stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver on agreed timelines.
• Apply AI and LLMs to data extraction, data interrogation, and document generation.
• Participate in engineering recruiting, including interviews and problem specification.

Requirements

• 6+ years of hands-on software development experience with strong individual contribution.
• Proficiency in Python, REST APIs, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of distributed-system tradeoffs, data modeling, API design, and performance tuning at scale.
• Experience with testing and delivery practices, including pytest and CI/CD.
• Background or demonstrated interest in investment management, fintech, or financial data.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with TypeScript, React, and AWS.
• Experience applying AI/LLMs to financial or document-heavy workflows.
