Chemical Engineer (Manufacturing)

What you will do

• Own and optimize coolant, slurry, adhesive, release-agent, and related chemical processes used in milling, grinding, generating, and polishing.
• Define chemical specifications, operating windows, process controls, reaction plans, sampling plans, and standard work.
• Monitor concentration, pH, conductivity, viscosity, particle size, contamination, microbial growth, and filtration effectiveness.
• Support production teams with process excursions, equipment concerns, surface defects, corrosion, residue, and contamination investigations.
• Lead continuous-improvement projects focused on slurry and coolant life, chemical consumption, waste, tool life, uptime, throughput, and optical surface quality.
• Qualify chemical materials and suppliers while partnering with production, quality, metrology, EHS, facilities, maintenance, supply chain, and external suppliers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, chemical process development, industrial fluid management, or a related environment.
• Experience with industrial coolants, polishing slurries, process fluids, cleaning chemistries, and chemical delivery systems.
• Knowledge of fluid chemistry, contamination control, filtration, chemical compatibility, and process monitoring.
• Experience with SPC, statistical analysis, root cause analysis, process improvement, and change management in manufacturing.
• Must be legally authorized to access technology controlled under United States Export Administration Regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience in optical fabrication, precision manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, advanced ceramics, glass processing, or ultra-precision surface finishing.
• Knowledge of polishing slurry chemistry, abrasive technologies, pH control, particle behavior, corrosion mechanisms, residue control, and surface quality drivers.
• Experience with DOE, Six Sigma, process characterization, capability studies, and process qualification.
• Proficiency with JMP, Minitab, Power BI, Python, Excel, SAP, MES, electronic batch records, or laboratory information systems.
• Familiarity with coolant reclamation, filtration, centrifugation, ultrafiltration, DI water systems, and waste treatment.
