Ops/Build Engineer (xAI Transmission & Distribution)

Location: On-site in Memphis, Tennessee, United States; not a remote or hybrid role. Up to 25% travel to other sites, vendors, OEMs, and factory witness testing.

What you will do

• Design, build, energize, operate, and maintain high- and medium-voltage electrical infrastructure for AI training campuses.
• Own substation and transmission energization plans, including pre-energization checks, phasing, synchronizing, and staged load ramping.
• Direct NETA acceptance testing for breakers, transformers, GIS, instrument transformers, arresters, and cable systems.
• Execute relay end-to-end testing, transfer trip verification, and SCADA and telemetry checkout with site teams and utilities.
• Coordinate utility outages and switching, write clearance and switching procedures, and manage field electrical safety programs.
• Own post-energization maintenance programs and fault investigations while collaborating with construction teams, vendors, technicians, and utilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another engineering discipline, or 8+ years of substation field experience in lieu of a degree.
• 5+ years of experience in substation commissioning, testing, construction, or utility operations involving high-power, high-voltage systems.
• Experience energizing high-voltage equipment, directing switching on live systems, and troubleshooting field issues hands-on.
• Ability to work outdoors and at heights, in tight quarters and hazardous environments, while using required PPE and lifting up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends and provide 24/7 on-call emergency support.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to work on-site in Memphis are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Doble F6150 or Omicron CMC relay test sets.
• NETA Level III or IV certification.
• Experience with SEL relay families and NERC PRC compliance testing and evidence.
• Experience leading teams and working independently in dynamic, high-stress environments with tight deadlines.
