Data Center Electrical Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY, United States. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office attendance.

What you will do

• Lead electrical design for utility interfaces, substations, medium- and high-voltage infrastructure, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, grounding, PDUs, busway, and rack power delivery.
• Develop reference architectures, electrical design standards, and technical specifications for critical power distribution across the US data center portfolio.
• Perform and validate short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality studies using tools such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower.
• Drive prefabricated and modular electrical delivery through modular skids, e-houses, prefabricated power assemblies, offsite manufacturing, and onsite commissioning.
• Review engineering packages, submittals, shop drawings, equipment selections, and construction implementation with build partners, MEP consultants, vendors, contractors, and utilities.
• Support commissioning, field engineering, audits, startup, and concurrent infrastructure projects across multiple US sites.

Requirements

• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data center or high-availability electrical distribution design through construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
• Deep knowledge of US electrical codes and standards, including NFPA 70/NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and UL/ANSI equipment standards.
• Hands-on experience with prefabricated and modular data center electrical infrastructure, electrical construction documents, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and technical layouts.
• Strong understanding of rack layouts, structured cabling, power distribution, cooling infrastructure, critical power topologies, and power systems analysis.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, plus experience coordinating electrical equipment manufacturers, vendors, contractors, utilities, and regulatory authorities.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering data centers in multiple US markets, including Virginia, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, or Oregon.
• Experience building modular prefabricated electrical or mechanical products and driving designs toward offsite manufacturing.
• Background in medium- or high-voltage distribution, onsite generation, battery energy storage systems, renewable generation, or liquid-cooled infrastructure.
• Experience at a hyperscaler, colocation provider, or MEP consultancy serving large data center clients.
• RPEQ or CPEng registration or eligibility, and experience creating reference designs adopted across multiple sites.
