Data Center Electrical Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote-friendly within the United States; staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time, with travel to data center sites required.

What you will do

• Lead electrical design for utility interfaces, substations, medium- and high-voltage infrastructure, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, grounding, PDUs, busway, and rack power delivery.
• Develop reference architectures, electrical design standards, technical specifications, and data center hall layouts for high-density AI compute infrastructure.
• Drive prefabricated and modular electrical delivery using modular skids, e-houses, and prefabricated power assemblies.
• Perform and review short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality studies to guide topology and equipment decisions.
• Coordinate with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, agencies, vendors, contractors, consultants, supply chain, hardware teams, and commissioning teams.
• Support construction, commissioning, field engineering, audits, startup activities, and concurrent projects across multiple sites.

Requirements

• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data center or high-availability electrical distribution design through construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of US electrical codes and standards, including NFPA 70/NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, UL, and ANSI requirements, as well as utility interconnection and regulatory processes.
• Hands-on experience with prefabricated and modular data center electrical infrastructure, construction documents, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, rack layouts, structured cabling, power distribution, and cooling coordination.
• Strong power systems analysis skills and experience with tools such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower, plus knowledge of critical power topologies including 2N, N+1, distributed redundant, and block redundant designs.
• Ability to work within the United States and attend an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time; travel to project sites is required.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering data centers across multiple US markets, including Virginia, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, or Oregon.
• Experience with medium- and high-voltage distribution, onsite generation, battery energy storage systems, renewable generation, or liquid-cooled infrastructure.
• Background with hyperscalers, colocation providers, or MEP consultancies serving large data center clients.
• RPEQ or CPEng registration or eligibility, and experience creating reference designs adopted across multiple sites.
