Senior Protection & Controls Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

Location: On-site in New York, NY; Austin, TX; San Francisco, CA; or Seattle, WA

Salary: $208,000–$300,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead protection and control design for HV/MV systems across data center capital projects.
• Define relay protection functionality and schemes in line with company standards and utility requirements.
• Review relay settings, coordination studies, logic diagrams, IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging, and operational descriptions before energization.
• Lead protection coordination, substation automation, SCADA point indexes, HMI screens, IED data maps, and integration design.
• Investigate protection misoperations and fault events through root cause analysis, event record review, and corrective action.
• Support implementation, testing, commissioning, and the continuous improvement of engineering standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in power systems protection and control across utility, industrial, or data center environments.
• Strong knowledge of protection coordination, relay settings development and review, and sequence of operations.
• Hands-on experience with SEL relay platforms and at least one additional major vendor, such as ABB Relion, Siemens Siprotec, GE, or Schneider/Micom.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.

Nice to have

• Experience with a hyperscale data center operator, SEL, a major utility, or a top-tier consulting firm.
• Experience with RTAC/PLC-based automation, source transfer schemes, and DNP3.
• Experience with temporary-build protection, construction sequencing, mobile equipment, BESS, on-site generation, or other MV inverter-based resources.
