Staff Software Engineer (Java)

Location: New York City; hybrid work from the NYC office 3 days per week

Salary: $185,500–$299,000 USD annual cash compensation

What you will do

• Own the architectural vision and design for critical billing, orders, and payment systems.
• Translate high-level system vision into estimated project plans for strategic initiatives.
• Lead business-critical projects and serve as a cross-functional liaison between engineering and business stakeholders.
• Make and defend engineering decisions while aligning technical strategy with business objectives.
• Mentor engineers and drive engineering excellence through design reviews, best practices, and technical leadership.
• Contribute high-quality code across billing, orders, and payments to set the engineering quality bar.

Requirements

• 10 or more years of experience specifying, delivering, and maintaining complex distributed backend services.
• Significant experience with multiple programming languages, especially Java.
• Experience with Spring Boot, Hibernate, databases, and a broad range of backend tools.
• Demonstrated experience leading system architecture decisions across multiple teams or initiatives.
• Experience serving as a technical lead on cross-functional projects while balancing engineering quality and business goals.
• Experience with billing, orders, or payment systems at scale.
