Commercial Closing Officer I

Salary: $26.00–$43.34 hourly (USD)

What you will do

• Validate pre-closing due diligence, loan documentation, credit terms, collateral, and regulatory requirements.
• Review and interpret commercial loan documents in accordance with M&T Legal guidance and approved counsel requirements.
• Complete commercial closing checklists and submit them for senior review and clearance to close.
• Coordinate loan documentation, closing, funding, booking, settlement sheets, and post-closing reviews with internal partners and counsel.
• Identify, troubleshoot, escalate, and resolve discrepancies, exceptions, and process deviations.
• Maintain current knowledge of procedures, regulatory updates, commercial products, and risk controls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related commercial loan closing, documentation, operations, or administration experience; alternatively, six combined years of higher education and/or work experience including two relevant years.
• Knowledge of commercial closing procedures, loan documentation, loan policy, applicable regulations, and related technology.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify, resolve, or escalate issues.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively under time constraints while handling multiple assignments.
• Self-motivated and well-organized approach to work.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with loan approvals, escalation and exception requirements, lending operations, underwriting, or customer service.
• Paralegal experience.
• Knowledge of department policies, applicable products, systems, and workflows.
