Staff Quality Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, US

Salary: $178,000–$205,000 per year, plus equity and bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Embed with the Innovation Lab and R&D teams during product invention and specification.
• Design and execute chartered, time-boxed exploratory testing sessions and investigate complex failure modes.
• Model product risks across policy lifecycles, claims, partner integrations, and regulatory workflows.
• Improve specifications, Definition of Ready practices, testability, observability, controllability, and test oracles.
• Build tools for data generation, state manipulation, differential comparison, trace analysis, and high-volume testing.
• Coach Quality Engineers, SDETs, engineers, and product managers while supporting release readiness and compliance decisions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in software testing and test automation, or equivalent demonstrated skill.
• Strong expertise in exploratory testing, modeling, coverage, oracles, heuristics, chartering, note-taking, test framing, and bug advocacy.
• Ability to produce specific, plausible, and arguable failure stories and communicate risk clearly.
• Experience with decision logic and configuration-driven systems such as rules engines, underwriting logic, pricing engines, or multi-tenant configurations.
• Exceptional written communication and the ability to influence without formal authority.
• Comfort using agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot and critically evaluating their output.

Nice to have

• Background in Rapid Software Testing, BBST, or equivalent testing approaches.
• Experience building quality capabilities through consulting, coaching, or practice leadership.
