Manager 3, Software Engineering - Tax Platform

Location: San Diego, California, United States

Base salary: $237,500–$321,500 per year, with potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the multi-year technical vision and roadmap for tax engines, runtime platforms, and Tax Prep APIs.
• Lead a combined organization of more than 30 engineers and multiple engineering managers across several capability areas.
• Partner with Product, Design, AI, Support, and Program leaders to align platform strategy, architecture, and customer outcomes.
• Drive reliability, performance, security, testing, resiliency, incident response, and compliance for tax-critical systems.
• Lead adoption of hirify.global’s AI and GenAI paved roads across products, platforms, and development processes.
• Resolve cross-team dependencies and allocate engineering capacity across a one- to three-year planning horizon.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years of people leadership.
• Demonstrated experience managing engineering managers and leading multiple teams or capability areas.
• Experience owning technical direction and architecture for complex, distributed systems or platforms at scale.
• Track record of hiring, developing, retaining, and building succession pipelines for engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
• Experience driving AI or GenAI adoption and embedding AI into products, platforms, or development processes.
• Experience owning operational excellence for business-critical, tier-1 systems, including reliability, on-call, and incident response.

Nice to have

• Experience in tax or another highly regulated, compliance-sensitive industry.
• Experience with agentic AI tooling or infrastructure, including MCP-based systems.
• Experience contributing to shared internal platforms used across an engineering organization.
• Open-source contributions, patents, or broader industry engagement.
