Renewal Underwriter

What you will do

• Review renewal insurance applications and assist with new business applications to evaluate, classify, rate, accept, or reject risks.
• Underwrite and broker renewal accounts, obtaining required information, completing applications, confirming quotes and binders, issuing policies, and securing payments.
• Analyze exposures, premiums, policy terms, catastrophe risks, and potential excessive insurance in accordance with carrier guidelines.
• Prepare written indications, quotes, and binders; coordinate inspections, state filings, taxes, and required forms.
• Market accounts and meet with retail agency customers to develop business, cultivate relationships, and grow the book of business.
• Train processors and assistants, review underwriting documentation for accuracy, and support sales and production activities.

Requirements

• Property and casualty state license required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or five years of insurance experience including two years as an underwriting assistant.
• 1–3 years of experience with an excess and surplus lines underwriting agency or company.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and exceptional telephone demeanor.
• Familiarity with ISO manuals, forms, rating plans, policy forms, coverages, exclusions, conditions, and terms.

Nice to have

• CIC or CPCU designation, or willingness to pursue one.
