Government Relations Engagement Manager

Location: Hybrid; onsite four days per week at a regional office in Buffalo, NY or Washington, DC. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance.

Salary: $103,900–$173,100 annual (USD)

What you will do

• Lead the strategic direction of the M&T/Wilmington Trust Political Action Committee, including fundraising, budgeting, donor participation, and effectiveness analysis.
• Manage PAC operations, contribution processing, disbursements, reconciliation, compliance, committee meetings, and external vendors.
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, Communications, Regional Presidents, and leadership teams on PAC solicitations, engagement programs, events, and government relations updates.
• Monitor federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory developments and communicate relevant trends and policy issues clearly.
• Create presentations, briefings, talking points, one-pagers, newsletters, reports, educational materials, webinars, and other government relations communications.
• Serve as a liaison for internal teams and represent M&T with industry associations and government officials; act as PAC Treasurer and support lobbying and engagement representation in Washington, DC.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in political science, history, business, or a related field plus at least three years of relevant government, public affairs, or communications experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven relationship-building and coalition-building skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex policy issues clearly.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory processes.
• Ability to work onsite four days per week at the Buffalo, NY or Washington, DC regional office and reside within reasonable commuting distance.
• Ability to travel to community bank regions and attend political events.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or Juris Doctorate.
• Experience managing a Political Action Committee.
• Understanding of the financial services industry.
• Public policy, government, or political campaign experience.
• Experience with email marketing and design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Creative Suite, or Canva.
