Engineering Manager, Avionics (Space Systems)

Location: Hybrid in San Jose, California, with on-site work required three days per week. Access to export-controlled information requires U.S. person status or eligibility for the applicable export authorization.

Salary: $186,000–$202,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow the avionics design team while planning resources across concurrent development efforts.
• Own core avionics products, including flight computers, power systems, batteries, ADCS controllers, and related electronics, from architecture through production support.
• Drive the avionics roadmap by improving performance, reliability, cost, manufacturability, standardization, and reuse across satellite platforms.
• Contribute hands-on to architecture definition, schematic and layout reviews, board bring-up, and debugging.
• Define electrical design standards, design reviews, derating and worst-case analysis, documentation, and ECO/DCO processes.
• Own qualification and test strategies and partner with embedded software, mechanical, thermal, systems, reliability, test, and production teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years designing complex, high-reliability electronics for harsh environments such as spacecraft, aviation, automotive, or robotics.
• 2+ years managing or technically leading engineering teams.
• Hands-on experience with electrical architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, and board bring-up for complex mixed-signal systems.
• Strong knowledge of embedded processing, power conversion and distribution, battery systems, control electronics, and hardware/software integration.
• Experience taking boards from concept through qualification and production, including microcontrollers and interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
• B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus strong leadership and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Flight heritage involving avionics that has operated successfully in space.
• Radiation-tolerant electronics and COTS component design experience.
• Space power electronics experience, including batteries, switching converters, and load switches.
• Experience with FPGAs, SoCs, embedded Linux, EMI/EMC testing, test automation, or Python-based data analysis.
