Engineering Manager - Subscriptions (Payments)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States. Office-based roles require onsite attendance Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday. The company may not support future H-1B sponsorship for this role.

Salary: $295,250–$345,040 USD base pay annually. Full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Direct the strategy, technical vision, and implementation roadmap for Roblox subscription offerings.
• Lead recurring billing features and subscription purchasing, upgrading, and management across platforms.
• Drive subscriber growth and long-term retention initiatives in partnership with Product, Design, and Data Science.
• Oversee engineering execution, technical design, code reviews, incident response, on-call rotations, and post-mortem analysis for mission-critical payment systems.
• Develop telemetry, monitoring, dashboards, and operational practices covering system health, success metrics, latency, and transaction reliability.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Risk, and Legal/Compliance, while recruiting, mentoring, and coaching software engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on software development experience focused on building and operating highly scalable distributed systems.
• 2+ years of direct experience managing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience defining and driving technical vision and roadmaps for mission-critical, high-volume services.
• A strong record of recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional engineering talent.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs and project status to engineers, product managers, and executive leadership.
• Familiarity with billing products and payment processing.
