Engineering Manager - Subscriptions

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday

What you will do

• Direct the strategy and implementation of Roblox subscription offerings.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Risk, Legal, and Compliance teams to define roadmaps, requirements, and priorities.
• Lead the full lifecycle of recurring billing, purchasing, upgrades, and subscription management across platforms.
• Drive subscriber growth and retention initiatives while developing telemetry, monitoring, and operational dashboards.
• Maintain the 24/7 health of mission-critical payment systems, lead on-call rotations and incident response, and run post-mortem analysis.
• Define technical architecture, review complex designs and code, and recruit, mentor, and coach software engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on software development experience focused on highly scalable distributed systems.
• 2+ years of direct experience managing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience defining and driving technical vision and roadmaps for mission-critical, high-volume services.
• Strong record of recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs and project status to technical, product, and executive stakeholders.
• Familiarity with billing products and payment processing; US work authorization is required, and future H-1B sponsorship may not be supported.
