Engineering Manager, AI Platform

Salary: $300,000–$400,000 USD gross annual base pay, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a high-performing AI engineering team, including coaching, performance management, hiring, and development of senior technical leaders.
• Translate evolving AI capabilities and company needs into engineering plans, clarify ownership, manage dependencies, prioritize work, and drive predictable delivery.
• Guide the development and operation of shared AI infrastructure, platforms, and frameworks for building, evaluating, deploying, and operating AI-powered solutions.
• Lead end-to-end AI solutions for high-value company problems, from opportunity identification through production improvement.
• Decide when AI Engineering should build and own solutions, partner with other teams, or provide reusable capabilities and guidance.
• Establish practices for AI evaluation, reliability, safety, observability, production readiness, adoption measurement, and business impact.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including meaningful technical ownership of complex production systems.
• 3+ years of direct people leadership experience, including hiring, coaching, performance reviews, promotions, performance improvement, and difficult talent decisions.
• Experience leading technically strong engineering teams across multiple career levels and partnering with Senior and Staff engineers.
• Strong technical judgment and recent participation in system design, architecture, and engineering-quality decisions; regular coding is not required.
• Experience building or operating AI-powered products, developer platforms, engineering productivity systems, or other technically complex platform capabilities in production.
• Practical understanding of modern AI systems, including LLM-powered applications, agents, orchestration, evaluation, observability, reliability, and safeguards.
• Ability to distinguish promising prototypes from production-ready systems and establish practices for operating AI capabilities reliably at scale.
• Ability to work from first principles, create direction without a complete playbook, prioritize effectively, and deliver in a fast-moving technical environment.
• Experience balancing foundational platform investments with immediate product or business needs and making build, partner, and enablement decisions.
• Track record of building high-performing teams, delivering candid feedback, developing engineers and technical leaders, and maintaining a high performance bar.
