Senior Engineering Manager (Billing)

Location: Remote in the United States or Canada; San Francisco HQ. The position is generally not eligible for new visa sponsorship, though existing visa transfers may be sponsored at hirify.global's discretion with business authorization.

Salary: $236K–$295K, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead and grow the Billing engineering team responsible for usage capture, data pipelines, third-party billing platforms such as Orb, Metronome, and Stripe, and invoicing.
• Own the roadmap from usage metering through invoicing, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
• Drive billing correctness and reliability through monitoring, reconciliation, and testing.
• Partner with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience on pricing, reporting, and customer needs.
• Hire and develop engineers, including senior individual contributors, while building performance management and career development practices.
• Make architectural decisions that balance long-term platform investment with near-term pricing launches and fixes.

Requirements

• Strong people leadership is the top priority.
• Enough hands-on technical experience to review code, prototype, and contribute directly when useful.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity, with adaptability and a growth mindset.
• Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams, ideally growing a group from a handful of engineers into a larger organization.
• Experience managing, hiring, and conducting performance management for engineers, including senior and staff engineers.
• Hands-on experience with usage-based billing, payments, or other revenue-critical systems, including third-party platforms such as Orb, Metronome, or Stripe.
• Ability to partner closely with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience without filling those functions.
• Strong business instincts and the ability to connect engineering investment to billing accuracy, revenue, and customer trust.
• Experience operating in a fast-paced environment; background may be from either a startup or a larger company.

Nice to have

• Experience leading a billing platform migration or pricing model change.
• Familiarity with financial reconciliation and reporting processes.
• Background in distributed systems or event-driven architectures.
• Experience building for developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, or DevTools.
