Payroll Manager (Finance)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY

Compensation: $86,000 – $103,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Build and manage the financial infrastructure for payroll from the ground up.
• Run end-to-end multi-state payroll for a 24/7 workforce including salaried and hourly employees.
• Own the payroll close process, including reconciliations, accruals, and general ledger tie-outs.
• Handle state registrations, tax filings, and agency notices.
• Automate payroll inputs including time data, benefits, and equity events.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to work on-site in San Francisco or New York.
• Proven experience running multi-state payroll end-to-end at a growing company.
• Experience standing up payroll in new states, from registration through first filing.
• Strong ability to resolve agency notices and manage complex reconciliations.
• Ability to partner effectively with People and Finance teams while maintaining confidentiality.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rippling or equivalent payroll systems.
• Experience managing payroll for hourly and shift-based workforces.
• Experience with equity payroll events and payroll GL automation.
