Controls Design Engineering Lead

Location: Hybrid in Austin, TX; New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Seattle, WA

Salary: $179,000–$263,000 base salary per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead the controls design development team and own template designs, sequences of operations, points lists, bills of materials, and Division 25 specifications.
• Set technical standards, platforms, and reference architectures for controls design across the data center fleet.
• Resolve design decisions across mechanical, electrical, commissioning, and construction stakeholders.
• Own the quality, consistency, and repeatability of design packages across modular data center builds.
• Drive real-time load control, MEP and behind-the-meter integration, automated commissioning, and robotic deployment initiatives.
• Hire controls engineers and develop the team’s technical capabilities.

Requirements

• Experience leading a controls or design engineering team, including technical delivery and people management.
• Experience establishing controls design standards, reference architectures, or specifications across multiple projects.
• Experience authoring or owning Division 25 integrated automation specifications.
• Ability to write sequences of operations and validate their implementation in working code.
• Ability to make and defend design decisions across mechanical, electrical, and construction stakeholders.
• Experience hiring controls engineers and developing engineering talent.

Nice to have

• Experience with modular or productized data center delivery.
• Knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical systems, including chiller plants, CRAH/CRAC units, fan wall units, and switchgear.
• Experience with BMS and SCADA platforms using BACnet and Modbus.
• CSI MasterFormat and Division 25 authorship experience.
• Experience building a controls design function from a small team.
